Mariah Carey: Second Chance

Even she has a successful career in selling records, Mariah Carey wants to prove everyone that she can do it so much better acting. Her leading role in semi-autobiographical "Glitter" was severely criticized by the specialists, earning only $5.3 million at global box offices.

In her new flick, "Push" which had its premiere this this past weekend at Sundance, Carey is playing a minor role this time as a welfare case worker.

The movie, based on a best-selling novel and directed by Lee Daniels who produced "Monster's Ball," reveals the story of a 16-year-old named "Precious" Jones who is twice impregnated by her father and is beaten by her mother.

Mrs. Weiss is sort of the eyes of the audience, the people who don't know anybody like this in their lives," Carey told reporters late Saturday.

"Yes it's her job ... but even someone who goes through that every day and sees these horrific things, she hears something that changes her," Carey said.

The 40 year-old singer is not all by herself, being helped by rocker Lenny Kravitz who's playing a nurse's aide who helps Precious deliver her second child. With this duo, if the movie won't be a box-office record breaker, at least the soundtracks will hit the charts.....
