David Copperfield's assistant was rushed to hospital on Wednesday after one of the magician's tricks went wrong.
The star was performing at the MGM Grand Las Vegas Show when the incident happened.
‘During an illusion where David attempts to walk through the rotating blades of a 12ft high industrial fan, the fan and its platform were being rotated by one of David's illusion technicians,’ his rep says.
‘Just prior to David himself walking through the fan, [the assistant] was accidentally pulled into the vortex of the moving fan blades, causing injury to his arm and face.’
David immediately ended the show, telling the audience they were dealing with "an emergency".
The assistant, named only as Brandon, was treated for multiple lacerations, severe bleeding and his arm is broken in several places.
‘The surgery was several hours wherein the doctors could insert pins and bolts,' the rep tells Us Weekly.
‘There was a puncture on his face requiring eight or nine stitches. The Copperfield crew waited at the hospital during his arm and face surgery.’
The spokesman confirmed David, 52, gave Brandon a children's magic set when he woke up.
The 90-minute show is scheduled to run throughout January.
